Earlier 2011 Shows...

The Art of Canadian Music - March 5 to April 1 (new dates)

An exhibition of contemporary portraits at the John B. Aird Gallery, 900 Bay Street, Toronto, Ontario

Sponsored by the Portrait Society of Canada - "The 2011 member's exhibition will be a showcase of our members' portraits of Canadian Musicians."

Opening reception Thursday, March 10, 2011 - 6:00pm to 8:00pm

Kelly will be exhibiting her portrait of world renowned celtic fiddling sensation Natalie MacMaster.

Natalie MacMaster is a wife, mother and virtuoso Cape Breton fiddler. You know her more as the latter than the former; an electrifying performer whose passionate proficiency on the beloved four-string amplifies the traditional East Coast sound for contemporary times.
Natalie has the respect and admiration of the crème de la crème of top-notch musicians: master violinist Mark O’Connor, whose camp MacMaster frequents as a guest instructor; legendary cellist Yo-Yo Ma – who recently invited her to prominently participate as a guest performer on his 2008 holiday-themed album Songs Of Joy & Peace; banjo prodigy Béla Fleck; fellow fiddling marvel Alison Krauss; spiritually electrifying superstar guitarist Carlos Santana – the list goes on.

But to Natalie MacMaster, her beloved family now shapes and informs her musicianship as much as the jigs, reels, air, waltzes, strathspeys, marches and traditional folk that feed her spiritual soul.

‘I am a Mom now. I am a wife. Those things are my priorities in life, and I think people get a sense of that – of that part of who I am – through my show. But my music itself hasn’t changed.’

If anything, family has reinvigorated Natalie MacMaster’s commitment to the stage and her audience.

About Kelly...

Kelly was born in Newfoundland and raised in both the USA and Canada. She studied art at NSCAD University and now works from her hobby farm in Nova Scotia where she lives with her husband and daughter. Her work, for which she has won several awards, has been added to a number of private collections. She is a member of the Portrait Society of Canada, Visual Arts Nova Scotia, CARFAC and the Hants County Arts Council. She enjoys a busy round of exhibitions, including three showings in the annual spring show of the East Hants Fine Arts Association, for which she has twice been awarded Best in Show. This is the largest juried show in Nova Scotia. Work from her  Solo show, “presence” appeared in the TV pilot, “Style and Music.”

Kelly’s work encompasses a wide variety of mediums, with people, animals, and the nature around her being her favourite subject matters. She has  been commissioned by Nova Fjords, to create works featuring the Fjord horse, one of which has appeared in the 2009 fall issue of the “Fjord Herald” magazine.

Portraiture

The commissions Kelly has completed in the past have all been received with joy and satisfaction. Perhaps you have person, a pet, or a place which you would like her to render into a detailed, lasting work of art.

Kelly is equally happy working in sittings or from a photo. If you don’t have a suitable snapshot, she will take one for you.

The work will be done in whichever media you and she together decide will best suit the subject. Timeframe is also flexible according to your needs and her availability.  See Gallery samples...

"Reverie" - This winsome portrait has won several awards, including Best in Show at the 2006 East Hants Fine Arts Association annual show.
